Why EZ-Glide™

A Solution to a Long-Term Aerostar Problem

The original Aerostar seat design uses six alloy steel studs with round bases in contact with a set of aluminum tracks. The seat moves longitudinally on four wheels riding on top of the tracks — the anchors retain the seat in the tracks.

So what’s the problem? The tracks wear and become uneven after years of use. Tracks are repeatedly removed and re-installed at annual maintenance; track alignment and spacing can vary from original dimensions. Seat frames can change; toe in or out slightly. These changes can result in a condition where the locking plunger in the seat no longer lines up with the track cut-out — and seat position is not secure.

The Solution

A Permanent Upgrade, Not a Temporary Fix

Central to the solution is the patented EZ Glide™ anchor. Unlike the original design — where six pins attach to the seat — the EZ Glide anchor is captive in the track itself, combining the latest in materials technology with an innovative design approach.

Hardened alloy steel is used to meet load requirements. UHMWPE (ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene) is used for the bearings — a material with frictional characteristics as good as Teflon and exceptionally good wear resistance. Estimated useful life: 25-35 years.

Each anchor installs with a curved spring washer that pre-loads the bearing and allows for a tiny amount of up-and-down motion — accommodating uneven wear in existing tracks.

What You Get

Built for Safety, Smoothness, and Longevity

Captive in the Track

Seats cannot come out of the track on takeoff roll — eliminating a serious and well-known Aerostar hazard.

4× the Contact Area

More than twice as strong as the original anchors, with four times the bearing surface for safer, more secure mounting.

Includes Pilot Seat Stops

Dedicated seat stops are included with every kit to prevent the dangerous rearward slide that can occur on takeoff.

No More Annual Adjustments

Install once and stay perfectly adjusted. No more paying a tech to adjust seats at every annual inspection.

Protects Your Tracks

EZ Glide bearings don't wear the aluminum tracks — eliminating the cost of future track replacement entirely.

25-35 Year Service Life

UHMWPE bearings deliver Teflon-like friction with exceptional wear resistance — the same material used in joint replacements.

Built for a Legend

Honoring the Aerostar Legacy

Designed by legendary aerospace engineer Ted Smith, the Aerostar remains the fastest twin piston-engine aircraft ever built — and its loyal owner community has kept these remarkable machines flying for decades. The EZ Glide™ system was created to help preserve and improve the experience of flying an Aerostar for generations to come.

From the Aerostar Community

"Worth Their Weight in Gold"

The EZ Glide Anchors are a lot stronger than the original pins. The gliders have at least four times the contact area and don't require the struggle, which will lead to a longer life span for the tracks… It might seem like a lot for something that should have worked on its own, but over time you'll find they're worth their weight in gold.
